F Nelson Norman, 1919-2003, Tipton

F. Nelson Norman, 84, of Tipton, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

He was born Oct. 14, 1919, in California, Mo., a son of Floyd and Edna Rohrbach Norman. On Feb. 5, 1944, in Kansas City, he was married to Johnnie Lowe, who died in March 1995.

Mr. Norman was a graduate of California High School. He lived in the Tipton area all of his adult life. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in California. He was an active participant at Tipton Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on an ammunition ship in the Philippine Islands. He was a member of Edgar Cole Post 304 of the American Legion in Tipton and the Lions Club for more than 50 years. He was a farmer and was a farm mechanic for Garber Motors in Tipton. He last worked at Howard Construction in Sedalia.

Surviving are a daughter, Janis Wassman, of Tipton; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Tipton, with the Rev. Frank Eastman officiating. Pallbearers will be Lions Club members Don Harris, Leon Moon, Neil Burger, Jerry Henshaw, Robert Rowles and Charles Spencer. Burial will be in California Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at Meisenheimer Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Missouri Lion Eye Research in Columbia.
